Show Synopsis:
Mary is a dying woman struggling to keep her dysfunctional family together. Rachel is a muppie (a Mexican-American yuppie); Annette is a born-again Super-Chicana, having recently and obsessively rediscovered her ethnicity; Miguel, bitter and comically irrational, spends his days drinking and ranting about illegal immigrants; Mike, a closeted homosexual, is determined to reconcile with his parents before Mary dies; and Jason, Mike’s partner, tries to figure it all out, but is unfamiliar with the ways of tumultuous Latino families.

Audition Venue/Location: ASU FAC Room 132 – 10th Street and Mill – ASU Campus Fine Arts Building

Specific Driving Directions: Take University to Mill, go south to 10th Street (there’s a stop light there), go east one-half block to the double-glass doors on the north side of the FAC. A paid ASU parking lot is available at the corner of Mill and University behind the Chili’s Restaurant, but not in the Chili’s parking lot. There’s also meter parking the area.

Character Breakdown: There are roles for three women, late 20s to early 60s, three males, late
20s to early 60s, and a small boy.
Mary. 60-ish. Mother of three. Housewife. She is dying of cancer.
Rachel, early 30s to 40s. Mary’s daughter. A physician in Philadelphia.
Annette, late 20s to early 40s. Mary’s daughter. A dental hygienist in Los Angeles.
Mike, late 20s to early 30s, Mary’s son. A Phoenix architect. Mary’s youngest.
Miguel, 60-ish. Mary’s husband. A retired construction worker.
Jason. late 20s to early 30s. Mike’s gay partner.
Man/Ghost. A Mexican man born in the 1910s. Middle-aged in the play
Woman/Ghost. A Mexican woman born the 1910s. Middle-aged in the play
Boy/Ghost . A Mexican American boy born in the late 1950s. 10 years old in the play

What the audition will consist of – anything to prepare in advance?

A short monologue is welcome, but not required. Otherwise, actors will read cold from the new script.
